Life Update

I know….it has been a very long time since I made a blog post. Well, here I am, 8 months after VSG weight loss surgery and my life has changed in many ways, but although a lot has changed, a lot has remained the same. Let me explain…

I have lost 65 pounds and I feel better and look better. My confidence has risen in many areas but has dwindled in some as well. Although I’m still obese (5’2 190lbs), it is clear that I am not the 255 pound woman anymore. I now walk in a room and own it verses walking in a room and thinking everyone is talking about how huge I’ve gotten or how huge I am. Yet on the other hand, I’m disappointed. I’m disappointed because I’ve only lost 65 pounds and truth be told I haven’t lost any weight in well over a month and I actually think I’m gaining (I don’t know for sure because I do not have a scale at my current overseas location).

I know I know. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, but as I adopt new habits such as working out and eating less, I’m still haunted by emotional eating and binge eating, which go hand in hand. There is so much fear. Fear that I’ll never reach my goal or fear that I’ll gain it all back. It’s an emotional roller coaster. Some say it’s lack of discipline. Some say you need to get help. Trust me I have help. Professional help at that but it’s still a struggle and a process. I’m not complaining and I’m extremely grateful that I’m not where I started and the journey continues. I guess I just needed to vent because I feel better all ready.

In better news, I’m 35 pounds away from my goal weight of 155 pounds and I have gone from a size 20 to a size 14 (some 12’s). My kids and I are currently out of the country visiting my husband for the summer and enjoying learning new cultures. Hopefully I will blog/vlog some of our adventures. I don’t like to make promises anymore because I may not always hold up my end of the bargain but we will see what happens 😉. Until next time!

VSG Pre-Op Diet

Today was the last day eating anything I wanted (well almost….minus anything with gluten thanks to Celiac Disease)with a full stomach. I start my pre-operation diet on tomorrow. The pre-op diet is a two week diet, which according to my hospital, consists of 2 protein shakes/bars a day, one snack, and a low calorie meal. The meal consists of a lean protein and a non-starchy vegetable, and the snack consists of a small fruit/half of cup of fruit, or a low-fat yogurt. I can also have vegetables throughout the day as long as I don’t exceed 800 calories. The purpose of this diet is to shrink the liver to make surgery as safe as possible. I know this will be challenging but I am ready to take on this challenge and succeed because my life depends on it. Wish me luck!

VSG Surgery Day

I just wanted to update my blog and let my followers know that I do have a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery date and it is October 2, 2017. This week, I take classes that prepare me for my pre-op diet, which I start next week. This diet is two weeks long and will consist of 2 protein shakes a day and a low calorie dinner of a protein and vegetable. Next week, I will complete the final testing and lab work needed for surgery and I’ll be good to go until surgery day. I am nervous but more than anything, I’m excited. I am excited about taking this leap of faith and I believe that everything is going to work out for me.

VSG Weight Loss Surgery Update

Hi everyone! I know it has been awhile but I have been busy working on everything I need to do to get my approval for weight loss surgery. Earlier this month, I went to the Bariatric Seminar (the second one I’ve been to) and received information about the surgery and the steps I needed to achieve to get an approval from my insurance company, which is Tricare Prime. A week later, I went and had my first consultation with the surgeon. A lot of the tests I needed for my insurance company were completed a few weeks prior so I brought that information along with me (EKG, endoscopy results, chest x-rays, and recent lab results). The only things I needed in order to submit a request for approval from my insurance company was an Upper GI test, Psychological Evaluation, and a Nutrition Consultation. I had my upper GI done a couple of weeks ago and my psych eval, which I passed, a couple of days ago. I am currently waiting on an appointment with the nutritionist and the soonest appointment she has is a month away. I am aggravated that it is so far away because it is the last thing I need to complete for a surgery date (pending approval) but what can I say? They are a busy office; however, I will be calling and checking for cancellations on a regular basis.
