Life Update

I know….it has been a very long time since I made a blog post. Well, here I am, 8 months after VSG weight loss surgery and my life has changed in many ways, but although a lot has changed, a lot has remained the same. Let me explain…

I have lost 65 pounds and I feel better and look better. My confidence has risen in many areas but has dwindled in some as well. Although I’m still obese (5’2 190lbs), it is clear that I am not the 255 pound woman anymore. I now walk in a room and own it verses walking in a room and thinking everyone is talking about how huge I’ve gotten or how huge I am. Yet on the other hand, I’m disappointed. I’m disappointed because I’ve only lost 65 pounds and truth be told I haven’t lost any weight in well over a month and I actually think I’m gaining (I don’t know for sure because I do not have a scale at my current overseas location).

I know I know. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, but as I adopt new habits such as working out and eating less, I’m still haunted by emotional eating and binge eating, which go hand in hand. There is so much fear. Fear that I’ll never reach my goal or fear that I’ll gain it all back. It’s an emotional roller coaster. Some say it’s lack of discipline. Some say you need to get help. Trust me I have help. Professional help at that but it’s still a struggle and a process. I’m not complaining and I’m extremely grateful that I’m not where I started and the journey continues. I guess I just needed to vent because I feel better all ready.

In better news, I’m 35 pounds away from my goal weight of 155 pounds and I have gone from a size 20 to a size 14 (some 12’s). My kids and I are currently out of the country visiting my husband for the summer and enjoying learning new cultures. Hopefully I will blog/vlog some of our adventures. I don’t like to make promises anymore because I may not always hold up my end of the bargain but we will see what happens 😉. Until next time!

FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Stunna Lip Paint

I absolutely LOVE this lipstick. If I could give it a grade it would be an A+. I was a little afraid at first because it is a really bright red but it looks amazing on my skin complexion and many others from the photos I have seen. It is long lasting and it feels amazing. It doesn’t feel dry or clunky or anything of that sort. I highly recommend it. I recommend the entire Fenty beauty line especially the Trophy Wife Highlighter. If you’re a highlighter lover, this is a must have! Check out the look I created below using this amazing lip paint. I also used the Jaclyn Hill Morhphe Palette to create this look!

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery

Hi all. I am back with an update on my gastric sleeve process. I’m so sorry it took so long to come back with an update. If you would like realtime updates please subscribe to my YouTube channel ( ) and follow my Instagram (@lmichelle_less_to_love) page.

I was sleeved on October 2, 2017. I am very thankful to God and my surgical team because everything went well and there were no complications. I stayed in the hospital for one night then went home to recover. I am now three weeks post-operation and I am doing well. I am exercising, eating soft foods, my incisions are healed, and I have lost 27 pounds so far. I am currently at a stall with my weight, which is normal around the three week post-op mark but I am losing inches and my clothes are fitting better. Check out this video to see how surgery day went!

VSG Pre-Op Diet

Today was the last day eating anything I wanted (well almost….minus anything with gluten thanks to Celiac Disease)with a full stomach. I start my pre-operation diet on tomorrow. The pre-op diet is a two week diet, which according to my hospital, consists of 2 protein shakes/bars a day, one snack, and a low calorie meal. The meal consists of a lean protein and a non-starchy vegetable, and the snack consists of a small fruit/half of cup of fruit, or a low-fat yogurt. I can also have vegetables throughout the day as long as I don’t exceed 800 calories. The purpose of this diet is to shrink the liver to make surgery as safe as possible. I know this will be challenging but I am ready to take on this challenge and succeed because my life depends on it. Wish me luck!

Urban Decay Naked Heat Eyeshadow Palette

I bought the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette a few months ago and I used it once and threw it into my endless pile of palettes until today. I was recording a video for YouTube today and decided I wanted some nice fall colors and a red lipstick. I know that the Heat Palette is supposed to be a “Summer Nights” kind of palette but when I look at the colors, I see fall. When I used the palette for a second time today, I fell in love. I believe this is my favorite Urban Decay palette that I own (I have the Naked, Naked Smokey, and After Dark palettes) thus far and I see myself using it until it hits the pan! If I could give the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette a grade, I would give it an A+. The shadows are like silk and are very pigmented. It didn’t take much eyeshadow at all for this look and I did not have to mute my eyelids for the lighter colors which is good for the brown girls! Check out what I came up with below.

VSG Surgery Day

I just wanted to update my blog and let my followers know that I do have a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery date and it is October 2, 2017. This week, I take classes that prepare me for my pre-op diet, which I start next week. This diet is two weeks long and will consist of 2 protein shakes a day and a low calorie dinner of a protein and vegetable. Next week, I will complete the final testing and lab work needed for surgery and I’ll be good to go until surgery day. I am nervous but more than anything, I’m excited. I am excited about taking this leap of faith and I believe that everything is going to work out for me.

Why I Switched To a Gluten Free Diet

For the past few months, I have been having digestive issues (TMI(Sorry)) so I decided to take a trip to see my gastroenteroligst. After a lot of testing and procedures, I now know the root cause of my digestive issues and it is that I am gluten intolerant. I am currently waiting on test results to find out if I’m just gluten intolerant or if I have Celiac’s Disease. Hopefully I’m just intolerant. It has been a huge adjustment. I’ve always loved bread and pasta but I know that this isn’t the end of the world. There is much worse news you can get.

When I found out this information, I had just docked back at the West Palm Beach Port after a weekend cruise, where I had lots of gluten by the way. On the way back home, I found it very difficult to eat gluten free. My only fast food options were salads or grilled nuggets from Chick-Fil-A. I tried to be creative and get a hamburger without the bun but I go sick from the ketchup. Yes! There is even gluten in ketchup. Very few places cater to gluten free individuals. I found out today that Starbucks has a gluten free breakfast sandwhich, that is pretty tasty and some restaurants (like The Cheesecake Factory) have a gluten free menu. Honestly, I have come to the conclusion that most of the time, to be on the safe side, I will just be preparing my meals at home. I have also found many useful apps where I can scan the barcode of items on my phone and the app will let me know if the item is gluten free or not. I also find myself googling if this or that is gluten free before I partake.

If you are a frequent follower of my blog, you know that I am a baker, and the main ingredient in almost everything I make is flour. As a baker, I was really upset with this news but as days past I grow more optimistic because there are many grain free flours out there for me to use. For instance, I just made gluten free Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies and they are delicious. They were made with almond flour and I will post some pictures for you below. Overall I am optimistic and adjusting to this new way of eating and if you are familiar with gluten free eating and have any tips or suggestions for me please comment them below. Also check out my YouTube story about my new gluten free journey here.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette Review

I love my ABH Modern Renaissance Palette so much that I was highly anticipating the release of the Subculture Palette. Here is my honest review. I like it but I don’t love it as much as I love Modern Ren. In my opinion, it is not as pigmented as the Modern Renaissance but it is as powdery (a lot of fall out) so go light with your brush. A lot of beauty gurus such as Makeup Shayla has given this palette a thumbs down so when I saw the reviews, I was a bit nervous but I won’t say it’s money wasted. I’m looking forward to see what looks I can create. If I had to give it a grade it would be a B-.

Jekyll Island

My family and I literally passed through Jekyll Island (coastal Georgia) this weekend because my husband had a speaking engagement. We were there for one night and half a day but we enjoyed our brief stay. We stayed at Hampton Inn and had a very comfortable stay (dog included) in our pool view room. That morning, the kids and I went to the beach for a couple of hours. The beach was so beautiful and clean. Pets are welcome and it is a very family oriented place. There was a nice shopping area and lots of biking trails and a water park.  The hotel also came with a free shuttle service that will take you anywhere on the island so if you want to drink and relax you don’t have to worry about driving. We will definitely be going back for an extended stay when we have more time.
